Day 167/191: We're Still Alive!

It has been ages since I blogged here, and I’m sure all two of you that follow have been devastated.

I do have so much to write, and I’ll get back to it soon. In the meantime, I’ve been busy savoring this last bit of unreal life, spending time with friends we have missed for a long time, and also starting to navigate our re-entry into real life.

This past week, I’ve re-enrolled the kids in school. I’ve scheduled (so far) appointments for various family members with dentists, optometrists, and orthodontists. I’ve gotten Story down to the very last page of the math workbook for the semester. I’ve dealt with a dead boiler and freezing tenant at our house back home. I’ve reached out to schedule Sagan’s driver’s license test. I’ve taken Story to a music shop here in Australia so she could pick what instrument she’d like to try for 5th grade band (clarinet, god help us), and I’ve looked into private lessons for that so she won’t be too far behind her classmates. I’ve signed her back up for gymnastics. I’ve scheduled painters for the interior of our house, just days after we get back, so that should be interesting. I’ve even had to figure out how to get our cars ready to use again and how to get myself to at least one car. (We disconnected the batteries and parked them at our cabin.)

I wouldn’t be able to do a lot of this stuff without the help of amazing friends and neighbors back home. I’m so grateful that we have them. It gives us a lot to look forward to at the end of this journey.

Anyway, I didn’t want you to think we’d dropped off the face of the planet. We’re just at the far end of it. Lots to share on here soon. For now, here’s a picture of two of my favorite things:
