How-Schooling?

How-Schooling?

I’ve been doing more research on homeschooling this week, and so far learning more is making me feel like I know less. I do know our state’s requirements for homeschooling (some testing and recording of a minimum number of hours, etc.) but I’m still unclear on how we’re supposed to accomplish those things. Like, is it the honor system or what? I write down some arbitrary number of hours and then submit that where? And how do they know I’m not the one taking the tests myself? I could be a total cheater. But I’ll figure it out. It’s just not perfectly clear from my initial perusing of the state website.

There’s also an option for online schooling in our school district, so I wouldn’t be the teacher in that case. The kids would take online classes and have assignments due every two weeks. But I can’t quite seem to get a straight answer to whether or not they could do that for just math and science. If we can do math and science that way, but I can do the social studies, reading, writing, etc. my own way, it would be perfect.

I’m afraid I won’t be a good enough teacher to give Sagan a score of 45 out of 20 on anything!

This post isn’t particularly informative, I realize. But I’m trying to record our learning process as well, and this is part of it - the stress of trying to figure out how to properly educate our kids for a year. One way or another, I’ll have this settled before the end of the year. Until then, I’m open to any suggestions from anyone who knows more than I do. Go ahead, homeschool me!

I can handle this level of “math.”
